Who says you can’t eat a burger without a bun? I prefer it! Using a Romaine lettuce leaf to wrap the burger keeps bad carbs and inflammatory wheat away and actually let’s you enjoy the taste of the beef itself, which is really why you are eating the burger in the first place. Make sure that you use hormone-free, grass fed beef to ensure you are getting all of the good nutrients that beef has to offer without the added bad stuff that you don’t want to be eating.
Lettuce Bun Burger
Cook time:
Total time:
Serves: 3
Ingredients
- 1 lb. Grass Fed Ground Beef
- 3 slices Organic Cheddar Cheese
- 3-6 Romaine Leaves
- 3 Red Onion Slices
- 3 Tomato Slices
- Ketchup
- Ground Black Pepper to taste
- Pinch of Sea Salt
- Cooking Spray
- Optional - (get creative and add chili powder, paprika, etc or even top with some avocado slices)
Instructions
- Sprinkle pepper and salt onto ground beef
- Using your hands work the slices into the beef to evenly distribute throughout
- Separate the beef into three section, then roll and pat each section into the shape of a burger patty. It should not be too round or flat, but somewhere in the middle.
- Spray a large pan with cooking spray, add burgers to pan and cook over medium heat until desired wellness. For a medium cooked burger, cook each side for around 2 minutes. Add the cheese on top of each when there is only 1 more minute left to cook.
- Set burgers aside.
- Rinse Romaine leaves well and pat dry.
- On a plate, place one or two of the romain lettuce leaves, place the burger on top, add ketchup, then the tomato slice and then the onion. Add any additional condiments that you like to spice things up!
- Enjoy!
Notes
Look for a ketchup that is organic and low in sugar. You will be surprised how many ketchup brands add a lot of sweetener to ketchup, even some organic so-called-healthy brands out there.

The reason we suggest Grass Feed Beef is because not all cows are fed grass as their main sustenance. Many cows are feed grains which in turn lowers nutritional value. Also, many times the grain fed cows may be pumped with antibiotics and steroids. Always try to find the most healthy alternative of the food you eat.

Sounds really great. I’m always looking for new ideas to eat healthier. I recently had to go see the doctor. I’m over 60’s yrs old. And my body is really fallen apart. Half of my right knee has been rebuild. Now the left one needs to be replaced. At the same time I’m also loosing feelings in both of my legs. Doctor said it’s time to take steps in a different direction in my eating habits.
